Simon Says “My Green Jacket”

On a perfect wet season day, that is no rain, twenty three golfers headed for beautiful Royal Lakeside Golf Club for our second visit in twelve days. That’s how it works sometimes.

The weather stayed overcast, breezy and dry and the round was completed in good time.

As ever, the course was presented in excellent condition and, even though ground staff were sanding some greens, there was no disruption and the greens played perfectly.

Simon Niven has been holidaying for two weeks and in that time has picked up a couple of minor placings and a “silly hat” and so, on his last outing this trip, has completed his wish list by taking the Green Jacket, scoring 39 points.

Bill Copeland also scored a great 39 points but lost the countback for first. For the third time in recent games, one of them was at this course, Bill was once again the bridesmaid. His turn is not far off, surely.

A further countback was needed to determine third and fourth places and here it was the consistent Nils-Peter Kristensen, also having his final game this trip, securing third over big hitting Andrew Purdie.

We had two flights again for the near pins and this time everyone got it right!

Near Pins: Paul Smith (A flight) x2,  Tip Briney (B flight), Marco Beer (B flight),

Winners at Royal Lakeside

 1st Place – Simon Niven (12) – 39 pts c/back

2nd Place –  Bill Copeland (13) – 39 pts

3rd Place –  Nils-Peter Kristensen (19) – 38 pts c/back

4th Place –  Andrew Purdie (10) – 38 pts

Best Front Nine ( non winners) – Jim Ferris – 20 pts

Best Back Nine ( non winners) –  John Pierrel – 18 pts

During presentations, when Phil spoke of 12 points, Kieron Maund thought this was his turn. But the 12 points was only the “silly hat” score for worst nine which Glen Elsworth claimed.

Kieron had 12 points for the entire day so he claimed the “wig’.

A nice easy, breezy day at a nice golf course is an excellent way to spend a Monday.
