Tottenham Tops

The Pattaya Links Golf Society chose to stay local on Friday, 22nd March as they visited Pattaya CC to play a stableford competition on the course which is starting to show a little wear after a reasonably dry high season. Fairways were a little patchy and soft around the irrigation points with mid morning watering having little or no effect in the hot conditions. Greens however, were still quite consistent.

Play started on time and good progress was made all round. High scoring was not on the agenda. except for a couple of golfers. A field depleted by a half dozen regulars trekking out to Wangjuntr left 25 golfers competing in a single flight.

Countback was inevitably invoked again with Niels-Peter Kristensen placed fifth on 35 points, Colin Smith’s back nine advantage giving him fourth place. In third was Darren Beavers with 38 points and he saw Larry Slattery elbow himself into second with a better back nine.

For Larry it was the final round this trip and closed a series of excellent results over the past few months.

The winner was Aussie Mike Tottenham who showed his potential again with forty very solid points to take the win and the Green Jacket.

Near pins went to Masa Sugaya (4), Chris Barker (7), Larry Slattery (12) and Colin Service (16).

The consolation best front nine score ( non winners) was Len Jones’ 19 points and the back nine (non winners) was Nigel Harrison with 18 points on countback.

In the absence of Jack Robertson at the presentation the dreaded “wig’ was once again left in the bag, but Maurice Roberts accepted an overwhelming late suggestion that his second poorest nine hole score of the day thoroughly deserved the” silly hat.”

Needless to say Maurice’s “Silly Hat Hit List” is now in operation again!
