Goodbye Pattaya Country Club
When Pattaya Sports Club were eight vouchers short of what we needed, we called Pattaya Country Club and asked to buy those few vouchers on arrival at the Club. We were refused and told we must pay 1300 bht for those eight.
After much unsuccessful debate with the manager, both on the phone and then at the club, our twenty seven players had come to play, after all, so it was off to the first tee.
Everyone paid 1000 bht green fee in the end as Maurice subsidized the eight. PCC got their 2400 bht. Needless to say, we have cancelled future bookings at this place.
We trust the club will have a very good “high season” as, for the sake of 2,400 bht, they have just lost at least 70,000 bht. from us in December as we would expect around 40 players at that time of year. Green fees, caddie fees, carts, caddie tips and drinks on course will all go somewhere else, thanks.
The 40 players figure is not an exaggeration as our game at Green Valley tomorrow already has 45 names on the sheet.
There was some golf played for one flight and four places plus the novelties.
At his first ever time playing in Thailand, Dave Moore took out first place with a big 41 points and wore the Green Jacket.
Brendon McGovern, off his +2 handicap, once again scored well with 39 points to take second spot. Who said low handicappers can’t do well at stableford?
Bill Stewart made a good comeback from his worst ever score in Thailand five days ago to be narrowly beaten on countback by Brendon.
Maurice Roberts scored a credible 37 points to make fourth placing his own.
Near pins: Derek Kinmond (A flight), Dave Arataki (B flight)
We are back to players putting names on the wrong pins so two missed out.
Winners Pattaya Country Club
1st Place – Dave Moore (16) – 41 pts
2nd Place – Brendon McGovern (+2) – 39 pts c/back
3rd Place – Bill Stewart (21) – 39 pts
4th Place – Maurice Roberts (14) – 37 pts
Best Front Nine ( non winners)…Steve Truelove….18 pts
Best Back Nine (non winners)…..Mike Firkin …20 pts
Once again there were many contenders for the “silly hat” but in the end Phil opted to give Marco Beer a welcome back after he scored just 3 points on the front nine. (18 pts on the back nine, by the way).
Joe Earls had the lowest score and happily wore the “wig”.
Incidentally, Pattaya Sports Club is still promoting those vouchers on the website more than 24 hours later! Beware..
