Garry Hookey’s First Hole-in-One
Alan Thomas Wins 3-way Countback
The ball took one bounce on the green and dropped straight into the hole. Garry didn’t see it, but the caddies did and screamed, but not as loud as Garry and his playing partners once they knew, and could be heard three fairways away.
Thirty nine golfers lined up at the first tee on C course. The first and only three-ball got away right on the allotted 10.04 am with some cloud cover and a slight breeze.
The course was presented in the usual excellent condition with nicely mown fairways, with some of that rough in the middle and the greens very good with some pace. There were some tricky and rather callous pin placements on some of the later holes on the D nine.
The scores will show that today was a course for low handicappers.
The “B” flight ( 16+) was won by first time Links player, Wayne Greenwood, who was invited by Alan Walker to play with us. 36 points is a very good first up effort.
Gordon Loviolette is fast becoming Mr. Consistent as he took second place with 33 points.
That darn “wig” gets them going. The next three places were many times wearer, Tip Briney with 32 points followed by two very recent recipients, Darren Beavers and Richard Dobson had a countback on 31 points. It’s an inspiration!
The “A” flight ( 0-15), or “the big boys” as Phil calls them had a shoot-out at the top with three scores of 38 points. Into countback mode where Alan Thomas came out on top. One of his playing partners, Pete Seil also had 38, but the two were separated by Dave Hewson winning that countback.
Then another countback to separate Garry Bright and Connie Walsh, both on 37 points.
There were four near pin markers out and all were won: Chris Barker (C5), Gary Hookey (C8) Hole-in-one, Nigel Harrison (D2)), Alan Thomas (D8)

Len reckons the green “silly hat” looks good on Irishmen and Chris Walsh was right at home after having the lowest nine hole score.
Ian Craigen is still learning the game and, after missing out on the “wig” a couple of times, wore it well today.
We have been having a very good run at Burapha at a very good price, much to the enjoyment of many golfers playing at Pattaya Links Golf.
