Tony Browne Fixes ShanksAfter a great win in the November Golfer of the Month, Tony Browne went on a sabbatical up country. It seemed that, on his return, the shanks set in to cause some uncustomary frowning. However, being a pretty good golfer, today he overcame those woes to post a terrific 41 points to easily, again, win “B” flight, and the Green Jacket for the best score of the round. In his wake came Mick Coghlan with a well put together sub handicap round of 37 points, and John Coetzee, in his first game with Links, took out third place on 36 points. The “A” flight saw big hitting Steve Truelove hardly believing his 36 points could get him a first place, but it did. Sparring partners, Maurice Roberts and Phil Davies, playing in the same group, fought it out for second spot, both on 35 points, with Maurice narrowly winning the countback. We took 28 golfers to Pattaya Country Club after a three month absence to find the course in quite good shape. We hear conflicting reports about the condition of this course, but with well maintained fairways and surprisingly good greens, particularly pleasing is how the back nine has come up after the near disaster three months ago when they all turned brown. Yes, there were some damp patches around the greens, ala Greenwood, but once on the dance floor, they rolled well. There is ongoing work, and we expect to see better next time. Pattaya CC is currently offering vouchers for 900 bht green fee., so if you walk you pay only 1250 including Caddy Fee. This course is very walkable. Also they allow share carts,so more savings. Ok. We have the winners sorted, now we had near pins on each of the Par 3s and all were won. Pierre Cere (5), Colm O’Donovan (7)Wayne Peppernell (12), Helene Lindberg (16)

After the complimentary meal of Massaman Curry, Phil conducted presentations. At this time he made a bold statement, that anyone who wins the Green Jacket seven times gets to keep it. Tony Browne and Bob Watson will be going back over their records, we think, as both have worn it often. Photo: Tony Browne and “wig” wearer Adrian Aspbury
