Quality Service at Pattavia

Pattavia hosted the Pattaya Links Golf Society on Wednesday, 20th September as the large group again travelled up the 331 and through the pineapple fields to find the course in excellent order, although softened by recent rains. Bunkers were well tended but the greens, so often the “defence” of the course, were a real let-down. They were slower than expected and unevenly cut meaning “steeplechase” putts were inevitable for the golfers. A thirty minute timeout for a heavy shower did not affect the golfers too much. However the course represents excellent value for money and an undoubted challenge for golfers at all levels.

The field was divided into two flights cut at twelve and under – wow! – and the top flight showed low marker Mike Allidi in third with 35 points. Countback relegated Andrew Blackman’s 39 points to second place with the flight winner again being Bob Watson (39) with an impressive gross of 74. In the second flight similar scores saw John Edwards take third place with 34 points, three behind Barry Elphick’s 37 in second. The winner with the best points haul of the day was Colin Service and his 40 points was his best score since relocating to Pattaya six months or so ago.

Back at The Links in Soi Buakhao the presentation saw the consolation prizes go to John Pierrel for his best front nine of 19 points and Lee Leppor for the best back nine of 18 points.

The wig went to Len Jones after the inconsistency of his iron play left him one point short of the other candidates for the “honour”.

Nobody could complain about the quality of the day and again a close competition was thoroughly enjoyed by one of Pattaya’s friendliest golf groups
