 Derek Does Best At Lakeside

The trip to Royal Lakeside is longer than most, but after a good run, we arrived outside the magnificent Clubhouse, got Caddies sorted and into the Green Fees desk.

Being one of the more expensive courses on our roster, walking is a good option, if you are able or want to, in order to save some Baht.

This is a walking course, quite flat, well grassed, and with ample kiosk stops along the way.

Weather today had us wondering. Would that threatening storm descend on us ? or would it do the same as the previous day and go around?

We had to wait until we started the second nine to answer those questions. Yes ! thunder, lightning and heavy rain had 4 of our groups becoming very close at one of the kiosks. This coziness lasted for about 15 minutes, before my group decided to take our chances and continue. A good decision, as the rain eased and we finished reasonably dry.

We were told that the greens had been sanded. The front nine had no sand and were in excellent condition. By the back nine we did get sand, some had been aerated and one was described as putting on a waffle. But, this work needs to be done to give us great greens tomorrow or the next day.

22 golfers came on the trip, so we had two fights, 4 near pins and “best nines.”

Derek Phillips topped the scoring, and won “B” flight with a fine 38 points. He has been in the placings lately, and broke through today, and got to wear the Green Jacket.

Mike Wilsher plays golf occasionally, and was a surprise packet, taking second spot with 37 points, while visitor, Dennis Eagar grabbed third with his 35 points.

In the “A” Flight, it was Maurice Roberts firing up for a big 37 points to nudge out Steve Truelove on a close countback. Steve’s good buddy, Gerd Reidler was right there on 36 points to slip into third.

Near Pins : Colin Service (Hole 3), Steve Truelove (6), Gerd Riedler (12), Greg Gawron (15)
