Gerner Lykke First Green Jacket

The word around town is that the Greens at Pattavia are getting quicker and more treacherous.

17 of our 18 players who travelled the 331 can attest to that. All I heard when they returned was “ oh, those greens”. Not only are they getting slicker, but with the windy conditions we are having, they are drying out even more. So much so, players can’t make the ball stop and, even though you want to stay below the hole, it seems almost impossible.

Otherwise, the fairways and general condition of the course is as we have come to expect, always presented well.

Some confusion transpired when the Green Fees office told the players upon arrival that they had no booking for us. Our Newly appointed Captain for the day, Wayne, soon sorted that, and play got under way soon after.

I only mention this as Pattavia is usually very efficient. Everyone has a slip up sometime, I guess.

Gerner Lykke, in his last game before returning home to Denmark, managed to be the only one to play to handicap on this difficult day. 36 points won the day for him.

The next three players all scored 33 points, with Wayne Peppernell winning the countback to take second spot from Colin Smith. Ralph McConnell took fourth place with his 33 points.

Down on numbers a little today, so no near pins, but decided to pay for “2s”.

That name comes up again, Colin Smith was the only player to collect for a “2”, and that was on the fourth hole.

Two more prizes to go, those being Best Nines.

Best Front Nine ( non winners)…Gerry Conway………20 pts

Best Back Nine ( non winners)….Niall Caven…………..15pts. c/back

Winner ………………Gerner Lykke (12)…………………..36pts

2nd Place…………….Wayne Peppernell (14)…………….33 pts c/back

3rd Place………………Colin Smith (13)……………………..33 pts. c/back

4th Place……………….Ralph McConnell (15)……………..33 pts

Once the buses returned and the complimentary meal was served and consumed, Phil was again back in the role of Prize Presenter.

He delighted in helping Gerner into the Green Jacket and was even more delighted to adorn Harry Lankoff with the “wig” and sunglasses, for having the lowest score for the day.

As a note..2 days ago, Harry had 35 pts.

We can all lose it sometime..
