Rod Stevens Leads in Huge Field

As we checked the sign- on sheet at Links Bar each day, the numbers were going up, and up. How many were we going to take to Khao Kheow for this game.?

After just one scratching on the morning, we set off in buses and cars with 41 golfers ready to tackle the great course. It is High Season, so we are looking forward to some big numbers.

Khao Kheow was in it’s usual very good condition. Some thought it was down a bit, but still one of the best golf courses around this district, and with vouchers through PSC for members, at 950 bht green fee is a good price for high season.

Perhaps one of the most unusual reports I had was that the greenkeeper’s staff were sanding the greens and moving the hole placements as our competition was proceeding. Never heard of this before. It effectively means that the groups playing after that work were playing a different course than those before. Interesting!

Having so many players, it was decided to run with 3 flights 0-13, 14-21, 22+

The best score of the day came from the “C” flight when Rod Stevens, who has been eying off the Green Jacket for some time, finally had his big day out with an impressive 41 points.

In the same flight, a long way behind Rod, came Merle Humphreys on 32 points.

John Mason was next with 31 points, while Len Jones won the fourth spot on countback with 30 points.

Larry Slattery once again showing out with 39 points to take out “B” flight. Niall Caven, just returned to Pattaya, scored 38 points first up and John Hughes took third with 37 points. Nick Odnoral rounded out the four placings on 34 points.

The lower handicappers also did well in “A” flight. Maurice Roberts returned a nice tally of 35 points to just beat Paul Smith, who scored 34 points from his #1 handicap.

Barry Wellings and Kevin McEntee going to countback on 32 points, and Barry getting the nod.

A great day for many golfers at Khao Kheow and all went smoothly…Almost..

So often there is someone who is not in a hurry to pass their card to the scorers. This means everyone has to wait longer than they should have to for the presentations. This happened again today, and when it did arrive, had an effect on the placings.

Please golfers of all Societies or Clubs, get scorecards in as ASAP.

Presentations by Phil, and here he presented our Golfer of the Month, Tony Browne

with a nice new golf bag. Well done, Tony.

Alan wasn’t the lowest score, but got the “Wig” anyway.
