Larry Fires At Green Valley

Although it is still Low Season, there are a number of golf events happening around the Pattaya area which is causing numbers at Golf Societies to be lower than they might otherwise be, as many players are taking part in these “specials”.

Pattaya Links Golf Society is no exception.

However, though missing  these players, we still managed a respectable muster of twelve starters for the rare trip to Green Valley.

It is well known that this course has been undergoing major renovations in recent months, and at times it was just not up to standard. But the works continued and now the course is looking in extremely good condition. Sure, the fairways are patchy in areas, but overall when you stop and take in the scene, they are looking very much on the improve.

The greens are also looking good and playing true and, on this day, quite quickly. So much so that a couple of players in our four managed a number of “lip outs”, simply because of not getting the speed right.

With the removal of many trees the course feels and looks more open and airy, and allows the golfer to “have a go”, without worrying about hitting out of from a forest. Mind you, one of our number still managed to hit at least four trees during his round.

Larry Slattery, is continuing  his consistent form, and today blitzed the field. Scoring an impressive 38 points, he was 5 points clear of second placed John Pierrel, who visits the podium regularly.

Visitor, Steve Potter, took third spot on countback with 32 points to edge out his mate, Tim Dale.

Only a small number, but let’s have some more prizes….

Best Front Nine ( non winners) was a tie between two players, both 18 points, and we were unable to separate them after many countbacks, so split the prize.

Best Back Nine( non winners)..Huw Phillips..17 pts.

Winner ………………Larry Slattery (18)………….38 pts

 2nd Place……………..John Pierrel (12)…………….33pts

 3rd Place………………Steve Potter (18)……………32pts c/back

Green Valley is not the che

apest golf course around, and with High Season pricing about to kick in, that will be unlikely to change.

However, the course seems to be getting better all the time, and a trip here once in a while is worth the extra Baht, just for the experience. If you haven’t been here since the renovations began, you will be pleasantly surprised, I’m sure.
