Tony Browne Keeps His CoolWe are now entering the High Season and, after having them pretty much to ourselves we must expect the golf courses to become busier. Therefore, it becomes more important for Societies to arrive in time and be at the Tee, ready to go when the starter says so. Adding extra groups unannounced doesn’t help to keep things on time either. This course is either very good or a bit ordinary. Today was regarded as the later. Fairways were in good condition, but there was much concern about the “rough” rough. The condition of the greens varied a lot, to find a description.. Having a great roll up of 25 players after 4 late scratchings, our first group, a three ball got away after a lengthy delay. Once rolling, things moved at a reasonable pace. Our 4 buses arrived back at Links just on dusk, ready for a good meal, and soon the results and presentations. In terrific form these past few weeks, Tony Browne kept his cool to rise to the top with the best score of the day, 38 stableford points, to take the chocolates in “B” flight. We can’t say he is the surprise packet any longer. Alan Walker has been very consistent and once again figured in the placings with a nice 34 points, while Paul Chesney took third spot on 33 points. In the “A” flight, single figure handicapper, Peter Wilson, always puts in a good showing and took the honours today with 36 points on a track that wasn’t easy. Peter was the winner but visitor Brian Talbot pushed him into a countback situation, while Mr. Crystal Bay, Takeshi Hakozaki, held down third, scoring a very good 35 points. After sorting the winners, we now have consolation prizes for the best nine.
Best Front Nine ( non winners)…Peter Bailey……….18 pts c/back Best Back Nine ( non winners)…Stu Thompson……..17 pts c/back.
Winner..”A” flight………..Peter Wilson (8)………………..36pts c/back 2nd Place…………………… .Brian Talbot (14)……………….36 pts 3rd Place……………………..Takeshi Hakozaki (13)……….35 pts.

Tony Browne once again posed for the camera wearing the Green Jacket. Phil is away for a couple of weeks , so Len Jones conducted presentations. After a long day out, congratulations done and drinks emptied, most disappeared into the night.
