Pat Murphy Wins Three Way TieThe wind has been blowing cool and strong around the area this past week. However, it had thankfully lessened somewhat by the time we made the trip to Crystal Bay. Not stopped, but making for a fine and pleasurable day. Unlike some others, this course is always a mystery prize. Will it be in excellent condition? sometimes it is, or will the maintenance have dropped off? Unfortunately, the C course was back to the not so good. Fairways were OK, although starting to dry out like many others, but the greens were patchy, some good, others in need of work. The Par 5, C6 has had something drastic happen. Very messy. Hopefully a work in progress. The B Course was way better, with well grassed fairways and greens running nicely and a lot quicker and truer than the C course. A good exercise in adapting to the conditions. Of our 29 starters, 3 of them did adapt, all scoring very well made 36 points. All were in “B” flight, so we needed to go to countback. The B course was the countback nine and Pat Murphy found his best play with a 20 point haul to take top spot. Very close behind was Helene Lindberg with 18 points to stand in second place and Peter Henshaw was wishing the C course was used for the countback. We paid to four places and Chris Walsh filled that spot on 34 points. Good efforts all round. Wayne Peppernell has been right near the top rung since returning from Aus. And, with 35 points off his new handicap of 14, took the honours in the “A” flight and is now a clear leader in our Golfer of the Month. Peter Wilson doesn’t play often, but when he does he is usually getting a mention, and today scoring 34 points got him second place, ahead of the just returned Martin Patch on 33 points, while Takeshi Hakozaki, a member at CB, made 32 points for fourth. Four near pins out, but only three were won.
Takeshi (C4) Rod Stevens (C7) Graham Pratt (B6).
After sorting the winners, we now have consolation prizes for the best nine. Best Front Nine ( non winners)…Paul Chesney……..19 pts Best Back Nine ( non winners)…Stuart Thompson…20 pts.

Once all were fed and watered Phil conducted presentations. After announcing all the winners, he then held a quick parliamentary session. Nominated by Phil, seconded, and winning an overwhelming vote, Wayne Peppernell was named as our new Vice Captain. A very popular choice!
Gerry Conway was not the lowest score for today, but close enough and happily wore the “wig” and glasses for the photo with Pat’s Green jacket.
