Karma for CarltonHow do you follow a day on a course like Bangpakong Riverside on Monday? The answer is simple…a trip to Burapha! The legendary course was on the agenda for the Pattaya Links Golf Society on Wednesday, 27th September and another large field turned out to enjoy a day on the C and D combination. Two dozen or so golfers were divided into two flights at fourteen and under to challenge on a track which was being prepared for a prime Thai tournament in ten days time. In their wisdom the club had responded to a request from the organisers to toughen up the course and so the Links were met with hugely challenging rough – deep and thick. The greens however had not yet been “turboed”, thank Buddha. The second flight struggled a little in the conditions with third placed Alistair Gill making the podium with 30 points on countback from Len Jones. In second place was Dubliner Derek Phillips and a welcome solid round of 34 points had only one peer, Greg Gawron’s 36 point round which took the honours. In the top flight scores were better with Tommy Marshall recording 37 points for third place, only one point behind the top two with John Carlton (38) winning on countback from second placed Kevin Rogers. For John it was a bittersweet moment as it was his final outing this trip but he had at last usurped the performance of partner Vero Morgan, whose monstrous 47 points on Monday had blown away the field, big time. Karma for John at last as he donned the green jacket as winner. Near pins went to Len Jones, John Pierrel, Alistair Gall and Russell Spratt and the consolation “nines” winners were Vero with 16 on the front nine and Peter Bailey on the back nine with 18 points. It had been another enjoyable golf day out for the society, now what would Treasure Hill add on Friday I wonder?
