Vero Skittles Them at Bangpakong

Veronique Morgan is a name golfers currently playing at Links Bar will remember. Following on from her 39 points haul at Crystal Bay on Friday, she has taken all before her with a massive 47 points today.

Happy holiday makers Vero and partner, John Carlton, are playing good golf on this trip, and made it a family affair with Vero winning “B” flight and John taking “A” flight with an equally impressive 41 points.

Placing behind John in “A” flight was a three way battle, with Kevin Rogers winning a countback over Bob Watson to take second, and Bob in turn winning over “unlucky” Phil Davies. All scored 39 points.

The “B” flight was cut and dried. Vero put daylight between herself and second placed Walter Baechli, who was pretty happy with his 36 points. Andre Van Dyk has been in good form lately and took out third with 35 points.

In our gushing over some great scoring, what about the course.? Bangpakong is generally regarded as a scoring course, so if you want a 40 pts on you resume, you play here. Beautifully presented, with wide open fairways and greens in top condition makes it a pleasure to play here, and although recent rain made for carts on paths only,as we can see, many of our group took full advantage.

With placings sorted, it was left to see who else could win something, and here in the Best Nines, the big scores continued.

Best Front Nine ( non winners)…..Phil Davies………..22 pts

Best Back Nine (non winners)……Maurice Roberts……22 pts

Winner…”A” Flight…..John Carlton (11)……41 pts

2nd Place…………………Kevin Rogers (11)………39 pts c/back

3rd Place………………….Bob Watson (4)……39 pts c/back.

Winner…”B” Flight…….Vero Morgan (23)……..47 pts

…………..2nd Place……..Walter Baechli (15)……36 pts

…………..3rd Place………Andre Van Dyk (15)…..35 pts.

The wearer of the “Wig’ is normally the player with the least impressive score for the day. However, some controversy this time. Bob Watson promised Mick Coghlan that he would bring Mick’s clubs.

Upon arrival at the course, there were no clubs. A sheepish looking Watson admitted the crime, and paid for Mick to hire some clubs.

So, even though Mick Coghlan, in fact, had the lowest score, it was decided Bobby should pay some more for his lapse.

Spaghetti Bolognese followed by presentations and photos, rounded out another big day out.
