Nigel Perry Fabulous 45

A fine Monday morning saw 20 golfers gather at Links Bar preparing for the slightly longer trip to beautiful Banpakong Riverside Course.

Upon arrival we found the instruction that carts were to travel on paths only, so once again we played lift, clean and place.

I found the fairways in good condition and quite firm, although not a lot of run. The greens had been recently cored and sanded, so tended to be a lot slower than we normally expect here. This managed to fool many of our players. Slow learners, I think.

There were some they did not fool, however, and Nigel Perry was one of them.

On a course known for high Stableford scores, Nigel took full advantage with a fabulous 45 points, to be by far the top scorer of the day, and therefore winner of “B” flight.  Len Jones has been worried recently about his poor form, but today bounced back in a big way with a well earned 36 points to take second spot ahead of Dennis Eagar on 35 points.

In the “A” flight, another returning to form recently is Phil Davies, now a couple of good scores in a row, and today won the flight with 40 points.

Takeshi Hakozaki gets around and here he took second spot with an excellent 39 points. In third place was the ever present Maurice Roberts on 38 points, winning a countback over Andre Van Dyk. All the type of scores would we expect.

Two Flights today plus the extra prizes for Best Nines.

We were lucky enough to miss the rain at the course, but drove into a heavy downpour just before reaching Pattaya Klang. Arriving at Links Bar we got a drenching while unloading the golf clubs.

That was fixed by a tasty chicken and chips. At the presentations Nigel fitted perfectly into the Green Jacket for the first time.

The “wig” made its appearance and had a previous recipient holding head in hands believing it was

coming back, But, he missed out and Barry Oats wore it for his first time.
