As golfers creep up the age ladder, many have aspired to the goal of ‘shooting one’s age’.
However, very few of us ever reach that lofty ambition.
Seventy eight year old Jean-Pierre Gasser did that today with a score of 78 gross from a handicap of #10. That could be, maybe, better than the first hole-in-one.
Needless to say, Jean-Pierre won the ‘A’ flight and his first Green Jacket at Links. Well Done!
Mike Ehlert has been taking lessons hoping to lower his handicap from #11, and those lessons seem to have paid off with Mike making a very good 39 points to take second place.
Nigel Henson and Bob Paine have a friendly rivalry happening lately and, on this occasion, it was Nigel coming out on top by winning a tight countback over Bob. Both had excellent scores of 38 points.
Jamie Booterbaugh has had, so far, a very successful annual visit, being in the winner’s mix almost every round he has played. 37 points today ‘only’ got him 5th place, and that after winning a countback.
In the ‘’𝗕’ 𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, Neil Smith continued recent good form by winning first place with a score of 39 points while pushing that handicap lower.
Wayne Peppernell has made a comeback to Links Golf and made his presence felt by also scoring 39 points, losing out to Neil on countback.
Tony Browne is enjoying his golf lately and was in the mix again with a solid 38 points for the third spot.
Martin Patch played in the same group as Tony and took fourth place with 36 points.
Steve Baker, after a grumble about why his handicap is so low, will be surprised to find that he has collected fifth place on a countback with 34 points.

The day started in confusion as there was another society with nine groups ahead of our nine groups and an adamant, no compromise, starter insisting that all will start on ‘A’ course.
Much debate and gesticulating resulted in him, finally, making the sensible decision to start Links groups from the ‘B’ course. With no hold-ups, all finished in good time.
The course is in very good condition with compliments coming for the fairways and, even though there was sand on some greens, they played truly.
