The magnificent sight of Chee Chan golf course and the scenic views from the elevated clubhouse awaited our twenty six golfers, many of whom were here to experience the splendor for the first time.
We played from the shorter yellow tees and, because there had been some heavy showers during the night, the lift, clean and place rule was invoked, although the course is in such good condition, it turned out that it was hardly needed.
With everything set up, there had better be some good scores coming in.
There were, when seven handicapper, Nick Aubin, presented a great score of 41 points to become another first time Green Jacket wearer. His terrific round started well, with birdies on the first three holes.
Then came two scores of 40 points. Mike Ehlert continues his dedicated practice sessions and, once again, reaped the benefits with his 40 points taking second place.
Adam Barton, fresh back from his off shore work, and with an unbelievable handicap of #20, also scored an excellent 40 points to finish third after losing the countback to Mike.
It was only two weeks ago, after Steve Moxey returned to playing golf at Links, that he won the โJacketโ with a big 41 points.
That form continued with another fine 39 points to win a countback for fourth spot.
Selwyn Yates lost that countback to โMoxeyโ but picked up the consolation โbest front nineโ with 21 points. He is only here for another couple of weeks and a win seems to be awaiting him before he goes.

The weather for this round started out very hot and stayed that way all day, with hardly a breeze to speak of, and this course does not yet have many shade trees.
We were given the okay to start early as there were no other players on course at that time.
A small point from a golf organizerโs view. Chee Chan management tend to want to micro manage every detail. They requested all names and groupings the day before, and made very nice decals for each cart with each individual name of the golfer, and the group number.
Unfortunately, as we know, things change a number of times in the preceding hours. Today we had one withdrawal after the lists were sent, and one no show on the morning. Also, a late entry. whose name did not get printed.
However, having these hiccups didnโt disrupt the start and everyone got away easily and in theโ newโ order of play.
It was heartening to see such good scoring, with players obviously appreciating the great course and forward tees.
