Somehow, we missed out on coming to Royal Lakeside last month, but we made up for it this time.
Some players have gone touring again, so down on numbers, but we started with a good field of five four balls.
We had been given a heads up from course management that the greens were to be cored and sanded and, as such, offered us a lower fee of just 1400 bht. all-in.
The necessary work had been done, but had little effect on the roll or track of the putts. This becomes more obvious when looking at the scores.
To start the day well, we were also offered a half an hour earlier start which is appreciated.
Over the years this course has nearly always produced high stableford scores due, in part, to the cut of the fairways, which leaves the ball sitting up nicely, especially on a dry day, as today. The greens have nice pace and run truly.
All of the recent stars come bubbling to the top of the pack today when three of the five most recent winners figured in today’s first three places.
Wayne Peppernell scored 41 points to claim his third ‘Jacket’ in a about four weeks in a tight countback contest with Thierry Petrement, who was heading for his second this week.
Jamie Booterbaugh had his win just two days ago and, even though scoring a great 40 points, had to settle for third place.
Ivan Nielsen and his buddy Hans Pedersen returned to Pattaya last week after a short stint to their home country. Ivan was into form quickly to score a solid 39 points, a good score anywhere, which put him in fourth place.

The trip to Royal Lakeside is a tad longer than most of our regular courses but is always worthwhile, as the condition of the course and the layout are top notch and open to some big scores, and some pride.
Combined with a courteous management, nice, comfortable golfing weather and an early start, it was another enjoyable day of golf for our 20 players.
