Hewson Makes Use of New Handicap
Once again the skies were grey and looking ominous as our twenty seven golfers, who are still happy to take advantage of a great price on a great course, arrived raring to go.
Laem Chabang turned it on again with the course in immaculate condition. The main talking point later was the number of three putts due to the quick greens. We know they are quick here, but today, just a little more so.
Dave Hewson has been in good form since an injury kept him out for a couple of weeks, so it was a surprise to find his handicap had gone from 9 to 10. That’s how it works sometimes.
He took that extra shot and used it to perfection by scoring an impressive 42 points. That gave him the “A” flight win by a long way, the Green Jacket and the best gross of 76.
Mark Sharp found some good form to take second spot on countback over Paul Smith, both with 34 points. A good effort from Mark.
It seems that at least once per visit Greg Proctor manages to find a day with plenty of points. Today he ground out 35 points to take the “B” flight win over Tip Briney in a close countback. Tip has taken off for a couple of weeks well earned holiday, playing around in the sands of Egypt.
Geoff Wallace was once again in the mix, taking third place with 34 points to win a countback over Jim Reilly who has now returned home for a short stint.

Newcomer to the current Links Golf, Andrea (pronounced Andre) had all guns blazing on the front nine (B course) and just lost a “Best Nine” award on countback. But! He then scored only 8 points on the C nine and consequently got the “silly hat”.
Richie McIntosh had a couple of games where he did not wear the “wig”, but it was back with him today for the least impressive score.
Weather Report: Cloudy, some nice breezes and, although threatening to rain all day, did not even produce one droplet. Got away with it again.
