HEAVY RAIN IS NO DETERRENT

Thirteen pairings went to Parichat for the Links inaugural Texas Scramble. It looked very ominous as heavy rain threatened to mar the occasion with Phil holding back the start until it looked like clearing. It was still raining hard however when the first pairings teed off. Fortunately, after about an hour or so the rain abated.

It should be noted that the course played very well with little `lying water` despite the earlier rain. The greens in particular were running very true and remarkably fast. A special mention should go to the caddies who did their utmost to keep clubs dry and were continually drying off the seats in the carts thereby making life a lot more tolerable for their golfer.

The handicapping was worked out as 25% of the combined handicap with each player requiring to hit a minimum of 6 tee shots.

Nine of the 13 groupings came in with scores under par which was a good effort under the difficult early conditions. No pairing coped with the conditions as well as 2 handicapper Richie McGhie and Ben Hebert who plays off 8. They shot a 5 under par 67 giving them a net score of 64.5.

Ben and Richie were presented with the trophy at the award ceremony back at the Links.
