Solid Stuff From Phillips

A comfortably cool start to the second high season week saw the Pattaya Links Golf Society travel to Mountain Shadow for some more “millionaires golf” on a course which was well presented with the traditional winter growth off the fairways making rescue shots a tough call. Fairways were good with only a little run and the greens were consistent but with a predominance of “grain”.

The stage was set for some fine competitive golf as the field found scoring tough to maintain. Phil Davies returned to the fold with an unspectacular thirty points giving him third place, one behind the consistent Irishman Larry Slattery taking second with 32. The winner was Huw Phillips, playing solid golf and his 35 points gave him a comfortable win on the testing track.

Near pins were won by Larry Slattery (5), Ron Matthews (8) and Len Jones (15), the seventeenth remaining unscathed despite the earnest efforts of the golfers.

There were consolation envelopes for Peter Wilson (best back nine, 14 pts) and John Pierrel (best front nine, 15 pts c/back) whilst the dreaded “wig” went to new member Paul Chesney on his low key debut with Pattaya golf.

Mountain Shadow may not be everyone’s favourite golf course but the warm welcome and the attractive fees will continue to attract Pattaya golfers looking for a real challenge.

Winner……Huw Phillips (13)……….35 pts

2nd Place…..Larry Slattery (18)………32 pts.

3rd Place……Phil Davies (12)…………30 pts

Back to the Bar early and promptly out came the Chicken and Chips, followed by Phil’s Presentations, during which he added a little banter about slow play or not slow play. His group played the 18 holes in 3.5 hrs.  No slow play there…
