Dynamic Duo Strikes Again !
The Watson and Roberts Show keeps rolling on. Once again these two finish one/two and leave the rest of the field to please themselves. Bob Watson followed up his 36 point haul at St.Andrews and 38 points at Mt.Shadow with another handicap equalling 36 points today. Maurice Roberts had a big 40 points at St.Andrews, a course he doesn’t like much, and today only made 34 points, but enough to finish second,6 points clear of newcomer Chris Barker, who took third on countback. It’s only two weeks since we played Eastern Star, and what a contrast. Then we commented on how green and easy to play the fairways. It must be a tough job being Greenkeeper here, as you need to have the weather gods on your side. In this short time, due to lack of rain, the course has already started to dry out with grassless patches appearing already. This is not such a bad thing, because there was plenty of run. So much so that my ball was ending up 20 and 30 yards further than I or my caddy thought. Small mercies for a not so big hitter.. The greens, although lightly sanded, played well. One player commented that, obviously you could not read the grain, so needing to just judge the fall of the green. Weather looked threatening, with a big black cloud hovering all day. But not a drop! This made for a very humid and wearing day. Pricing today was increased from 1200 bht last time to 1750 bht ( all in). Still don’t understand why Clubs charge penalty rates on holidays. Do staff get paid more for working on Public Holidays?? If so, OK. After one no show 15 golfers came out to play, so resulting in one flight with 3 places, and the popular Best Nines for non winners.
Best Front Nine…..Phil Davies……16 pts. ( he was the one beaten on c/back for third) Best Back Nine……Tip Briney……16 pts
Winner ………Bob Watson ( 7)……………36pts 2nd Place……..Maurice Roberts ( 12)……34 pts 3rd Place………Chris Barker ( 7)…………28 pts
A quick comfortable trip back to Pattaya, a tasty curry for the golfers, and on to the presentations. Newcomer, American Chris Barker was very impressed that we presented a Green Jacket to the Winner. Equally impressed over the “Wig” and the fact that Vic Wright got to wear it again, the last time before returning to Australia. Good sport Vic.
