How Do You Beat Bob Watson?
Simple!! Get more Stableford points than he does.. Once again Bob Watson, well and truly back in top form after the “golfer’s slump”, scored better than anyone else of the field of 17. His impressive sub handicap 37 points put him atop the podium and into that very comfortable Green Jacket. I think the 7 handicap may well become a distant memory. He can be beaten. Just a couple of days ago high handicapper Wayne Morrison scored 42 points. That would have won today. It’s up to the rest of us to do better. They were close though. Kevin Rogers, a very consistent golfer put together a nice 36 points to take second spot by way of a countback over Tip Briney. Two very good games. Maurice Roberts was there again in fourth with 35 points. Where did all this happen? You better believe it! We played Pattaya Country Club for the first time in maybe a year or more. Why? We had some good reports from various people that the course had improved a lot.. and PCC was offering a terrific promotional price of 1350 bht for G/F, Caddy, Cart. General comment after the game was that we were not disappointed. It certainly has improved a lot, particularly the greens, and more particularly, on the back nine. A little slower than Burapha during the week, but running true. OK, it’s no Khao Kheow or Pattana, but very playable and enjoyable. Some fairways are suffering the lack of rain, as most courses are, but mostly very good. I remarked to my Caddy about how beautiful the 18th fairway looked. One day they may all be like that. It was worth the experiment and we have already booked in for next month. One flight today, with four places and Best Nines.
Best Front Nine …Mike Wilsher….. ……20 pts Best Back Nine…..Peter McDonald…….20 pts
Winner ……………Bob Watson ( 7)………..37pts Kevin Rogers(12)……..36 pts c/back Tip Briney (21)………..36 pts Maurice Roberts (12)….35 pts.
Our round today was quick. With no hold ups most groups finished in well under 4 hours. It was early in the day, but presentations were completed without delay. No secret who donned the Green Jacket again! The worthy winner of the “Wig” was a visitor, but he did not get back to the bar, so his good mate, David Pearce, who was second last got to have his photo taken for the Gallery.
