Big Wayne Peppernell Easy Winner
While “low season” prices prevail, we took the opportunity to a play at the beautiful Pattana Golf Course once again. This course is always presented in immaculate condition and today it lived up to that high standard. The Caddies here seem to be much better trained than some other courses. Of course there may be an exception, but rarely, and they are not scared to rake the bunkers either. We played B+C courses today, but any of the 3 would have done as well. Fairways cut to near perfection, rough still gets hold of the club at times, and the greens in very good order. The skies were grey most of the round. When asked if it would rain, my caddy shook her head and uttered “nid noy”. And apart from a couple of times of really trying to rain, it did not. By the time we saw the first rain of the day, we were happily ensconced in Links Bar. Twenty four starters today, so suggesting people like playing here, and most groups got around the 18 holes in good time. Wayne Peppernell had a special request for me. That is to put him with some lower handicap, or good ? golfers, because he says it lifts his own game.. Well, that proved correct, by design or accident, we don’t know. However Wayne returned his card with a big 41 points to leave second placegetter, Steve Truelove in his wake,5 points behind. Rocky Lawson put in a 35 to complete the “A” flight podium. First timer, John Ianson landed the win in “B” flight with 34 points, beating Derek Phillips, a last start winner, by one point.Len Jones had another birthday on Tuesday, but showed age doesn’t slow him by taking third spot with 32 points. We decided to have four near pin prizes for this round and all were won. Peter Henshaw (B3),Steve Truelove (B7), Kevin Rogers (C2) and Peter McDonald (C7). So, with two flights and four near pins, we looked towards the best scores on the front and back nines, for anyone who had not yet won anything
Best Front Nine….Phil Davies……20 pts Best Back Nine….Kevin La Bar….17 pts on c/back
Winner..”A” Flight …….Wayne Peppernell (17)…………41 pts 2nd Place……………….Steve Trulove (9)……………36pts 3rd Place………………..Rocky Lawson (21)…………35pts
Winner “B” Flight………John Ianson (23)……………,.34 pts 2nd Place………………….Derek Phillips (30)……………33pts 3rd Place……………………Len Jones (29)………………32 pts
Finally, one player wasn’t fooled by Phil’s teasing other players about the “Wig”. Tony Kerry was told about this “prize” by one of his playing group as they were signing the cards. He was prepared!
Here’s hoping the green fees stay down a little longer so we can get back to beautiful Pattana.
