As the scores came in from our 54 players, it was becoming obvious that the course was in big point scoring condition.
At last, it appeared that Lawrie McBride, with the clubhouse leading score of 42 points, might finally kick the โ€˜bridesmaidโ€™ tag.
But then, as the second last card was presented, it was Mike Ehlert with the same score of 42 points.
The ensuing countback was won by Mike with the better back nine, to once again relegate Lawrie to โ€˜you know whereโ€™ in a tight finish for โ€˜Aโ€™ flight.
But Lawrie is a smiling man and took the result with good humour, even knowing his handicap probably will come down again.
Nigel Henson returned again following his 44 points haul last month to post another 39 points here, to take third spot on countback.
Paul Smith, in a rare visit to Links, also had 39 points, from his handicap of #4, to again be in the placings.
Paul Gill has had his handicap blow out a couple of shots and took advantage of that with a score of 37 points to win a countback over playing partner, Russell Exley.
Andy Kelleher had 37 points also, but lost all the countbacks.
A long time out of the top places, Dave Arataki found that something extra to win the โ€˜Bโ€™ flight with an excellent 39 points.
Dave Clewley, back for his first game after a short stint in the U.K, went well fresh to score 38 points for second spot.
Walter Baechli has found some good form recently and 37 points today showed that to advantage. Walter took third place.
Gordon Laviolette put into practice the advice he had received from a buddy and did a great job to score 36 points for fourth.
Keith Griffith is Dave Clewleyโ€™s travelling buddy and he too has quickly found his feet with a score of 35 points to win a countback over Tommy Pearson.

There was some indecision by the starter about giving us a two tee start, having such a large group. Much discussion eventually had four groups start on the โ€˜Bโ€™ nine and the other ten groups from the โ€˜Aโ€™ nine. Sort of two tee.
There was a very dark cloud about for the tee off but, apart from a brief, light shower later in the round, the day stayed dry.
