Another Wet Day No Problem for Tommy

Another Hole-in-One – Lawrie McBride Aces

It was the Tommy and Lawrie Show at Khao Kheow on this day.

Tommy Marshall (handicap 5) used great course management to overcome playing from the shorter white tees, a rain delay, and then wet fairways, to score an impressive 39 points (74 gross), for his second Green Jacket in less than a month.

Lawrie McBride finished second with another very good score, under the conditions, of 36 points, including his very first Hole-in-One.

This came on the par 3 C3 hole at 138 yards.

Lawrie hit the six iron with his typically high shot which landed on the green and ran about four feet to the hole and threw itself in. After the rain it may not have run, perhaps.

In his words though, this is the first one in 40 years of playing golf. Lawrie was obviously pleased and asked me to phone ahead to Links to be sure that those who arrived back before him received a drink on his bin.

There were more placings. Peter Lacey, the winner on Wednesday, continued on to get 34 points for third. Craig Webster kept it together for 18 holes this time to grab fourth spot on countback with 33 points.

George Mueller also had 33 points, missed the countback, but had best front nine of 20 points. Karl Flood beat a couple of others on countback for best back nine of 16 points.

Once again, the rain caught us out. First the thunder, then the lightning very close, followed by the rain. Although most agreed this was not as heavy as experienced on Wednesday, it was enough to delay play for about an hour.

It’s been a big week for the elusive hole-in-one.

Kevin LaBar on Monday and Lawrie on Friday.

A footnote here: There were, in fact, three Links golfers who achieved the hole-in-one.

On the same day that Kevin, playing a scheduled Links game at Pattavia, had his, Tommy Marshall, playing in another group at Laem Chabang, also scored an ace.

Is there a trend happening? We look forward to our next game and, who knows ??
