We are well aware of the lack of golfers left around the Pattaya societies during these past two years, due to travel and border restrictions.
So it came as a pleasant, and exciting, surprise to find the number of players signed for this game had, somehow, mushroomed to a staggering 41 golfers.
On the eve of a game, we always make a courtesy call to the golf club to confirm numbers. Khao Kheow called back three times to verify that we were saying NOT 10 players, but Ten groups, yes! 40 players.
Also, for the first time in a very long time, we had the numbers to run two flights, with the cut at handicap 17.
At our most recent visit here, Kevin LaBar produced a great score of 44 points.
He handed in his card today with another 43 points and looked like achieving a back-to-back.
However, in one of his very rare appearances at Links these days, and at Khao Kheow, Bill Copland pipped Kevin by one point for his 44 points to win “A” flight, and the Green Jacket.
Nigel Henson has won a couple of games with scores of 40 plus, but his terrific 41 points could manage only third place.
Newcomer, John Reps, was on the podium for the third time, winning a countback on 38 points for the fourth spot, beating the very low handicapper, Michael Lohse.
In the “B” flight, Bob Paine, after a disappointing game last Friday, came out blasting, with 23 points on the front nine. He carried on to make an excellent 42 points to take the flight honours.
Another making a rare appearance, Torben Lindgaard, played well for a solid 40 points in second place.
Niall Caven probably surprised himself with a score of 38 points and, after winning the countback, took third place ahead of Neil Smith.
The other in the Smith family, Lee, continued his good form to grab the final spot with 36 points, and another cut to his handicap.

The sky stayed overcast all day with a very pleasant breeze and low humidity. Although there was no sign of rain, one caddie was spotted fitting a rain cover (condom) on a bag.
The course is in very good condition with firm fairways and the usual true greens, with the back nine greens being slightly quicker than the front nine.
A great day was had by all, topped with a free nosh-up of Spaghetti Bolognese back at Links Bar.
