Finally! Lawrie McBride, who has been in top form pretty much since returning to Pattaya in January and, apart from a win on January 14, has been pipped at the post countless times to earn the tag of ‘Bridesmaid’.
The shackles are off, so that not only did he win the ‘B’ flight, and overall, but made a huge score of 43 points on a not so easy golf course. Proof that the great form is real.
It’s hard to believe that the next three are in ‘B’ flight, but there is some talent about.
Steve Moxey came for his second visit in a week to grab another prize with a terrific score of 38 points for second place.
John Reps missed a lot of golf from staying up late to watch football, but since playing golf again, has found some good form. 36 points is good for third place.
In form Jamie Booterbaugh grabbed fourth spot with 35 points.
Another to be maintaining top form, after a three month lay off, is Huw Phillips and he has done a great job to score 39 points to win the ‘A’ flight.
Next best in this flight was a newcomer to Links, but with a handicap of #8, Peter Rowley scored a handy 35 points to take second place on a countback over the #2 handicapper, Richie McGhie. Certainly a couple of good rounds.
To complete the podium for this flight, Izador Markic, a scratch golfer yet, made 34 points for that fourth place.
With a big field of 44 players we went to three flights as well as the novelties.
Dave Arataki has played a lot of golf recently without setting the world on fire, but backing up after winning his flight at Laem Chabang on Mar.2 with 39 points, he has found 35 points to win his flight again.
Then came a heap of countbacks on 33 points to determine the rest of the places.
Richard Dobson, looking for another Green Jacket, grabbed second spot from Gordon Laviolette, with his improved swing and he, in turn, kept out Tommy Pearson for the fourth place.

There was the threat of a storm around and it was hot, once again all were to finish dry.
The newest ‘sports day’ price here is a very nice 1300 bht all in. When we go to sister course, Green Valley, later this month, that same great price will be there for us.
